Description
Vitamin B12 for energy production and a healthy nervous system
Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin that contributes to normal function of the nervous system, immune system, normal psychological function, red blood cell formation, and promotes reduction of tiredness and fatigue by helping convert energy into the body.
Constantly tired and lacking energy? Suffer from pins and needles, muscle weakness, or disturbed vision? Got a sore tongue or mouth ulcers? Any problems with memory, understanding and judgement? Or depression and confusion? If you answered yes to any of the above, you may be lacking in vitamin B12.
Causes of vitamin B12 deficiency and how to prevent it
Also known as Folate Deficiency Anaemia, vitamin B12 deficiency may cause the body to produce abnormally large red blood cells that cannot function properly. What’s more, the vitamin is important for normal breakdown of homocysteine, an amino acid which can
increase the risk of circulatory problems if elevated.
Vitamin B12 deficiency can be caused by:
- Pernicious anaemia (an autoimmune condition that attacks healthy cells in your stomach, preventing your body from absorbing vitamin B12 from food,
- A lack of vitamins in your diet. As meat, fish and dairy products are a source of vitamin B12, people who eat a vegan or vegetarian diet may be more at risk.
- Certain medications, including anticonvulsants and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which can affect how much vitamin B12 your body absorbs.
- Age. VitaminB12 and folate deficiency are more common in older people, affecting around 1 in 10 people aged 75 or over and 1 in 20 people aged 65 to 74.
VitTech Vitamin B12, from Dulwich Health’s own brand of supplements, will help you get the vitamin B12 levels
your body needs for energy conversion and regular function of the nervous system.
