Who is most at risk of Selenium deficiency?
Selenium deficiency can affect anyone. But more at-risk groups include people with gastro-intestinal issues, eating restrictions due to diet, lifestyle, or allergies, people living in areas with low Selenium soil content, those with phenylketonuria (PKU), and the elderly.
Selenium is an essential trace element found in soil that is absorbed by eating crops and animals that graze on the land. Once in the body, it gets converted into selenoproteins – around 25-30 powerful enzymes that help support our human health.
