Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between Bio-Quinone Q10 Super, Bio-Quinone Q10 Gold, and Bio-Quinone PhytoTM?
Bio-Quinone Q10 Super has 30 mg of ubiquinone (co-enzyme Q10) per capsule and Bio-Quinone Q10 Gold contains 100 mg ubiquinone (co-enzyme Q10) per capsule. The capsules in both Bio-Quinone Q10 Super and Bio-Quinone Q10 Gold are made from soft gelatin. Bio-Quinone PhytoTM contains 100 mg ubiquinone (co-enzyme Q10) per capsule, and are plant-based, and therefore compatible with vegan, halal and kosher diets.
Is Q10 on the doping list?
No. The body produces Q10 on its own and we can also get some from our diet. Many athletes do take supplements of Q10 to counteract declining Q10 levels, and the Q10 supplements are not categorised as doping.
Why is Q10 better to take in oil-based capsules?
The most bioavailable Q10 products are dissolved in vegetable oil. Q10 is not an easily absorbed substance as the crystals are too large to be absorbed into the body. Because of this, the body doesn’t take on much of any unprocessed Q10 powder or tablets we ingest. Q10 is a fat-soluble substance that has to be absorbed in the small intestine along with fat. That means producers of Q10 supplements have to treat the Q10 raw material in a special way in order to achieve an effective absorption.
How much Q10 do we get from our diets?
We typically get around 5–10 mg of Q10 from the food we eat on a daily basis. It’s usually found in cereal products, walnuts, almonds, oil-rich fruits, green veg, and fish.
Can I increase my body's own production of co-enzyme Q10?
Yes – through exercise and optimal nutrient intake. But the cell's production of Q10 is a complex process involving many biochemical steps. In order for the body to produce coQ10, it will need a vitamin B complex, vitamins C and E, selenium, magnesium, and several trace elements. A lack of one or more of these nutrients will affect the body's Q10 production considerably. An increase in available Q10 in the body will usually be larger with the aid of even a small daily supplement of Q10.
How long can I take Q10?
Q10 is generally considered a safe substance. Long-term studies of more than 5 years, as well as studies with daily doses, have shown that it is safe to take supplements of Q10 for a long period.

Description

An essential co-enzyme for the normal functioning of all tissues

Without Q10, we just would not work. This essential co-enzyme occurs naturally within every single cell in our bodies – helping generate energy in our cells, and acting as an antioxidant against cell-damaging free radicals.

Around three-quarters of the body’s Q10 is made in the liver. After peaking between the ages of 20 and 25, our
bodies’ Q10 production dwindles with age. This is particularly bad news for our energy-demanding hearts and skeletal muscles, which need adequate Q10 levels to function properly. Many people turn to co-enzyme Q10 supplements to maintain optimal levels in the body, but are unaware that there are vast differences in the quality of the products available on the market.

It’s all in the absorption

The body finds Q10 difficult to absorb its raw, crystal-like form. This is because it needs the Q10 to be delivered as individual molecules in order to absorb it properly. As a fat-soluble substance, the crystals maintain their structure in the (watery) gut – essentially passing through in their original form, without being broken down and absorbed.

Knowing this, many Q10 preparations come in the form of soft gel capsules containing Q10 mixed with oil. The
absorption rate here is better, but still not great. A 2019 study examined seven different ubiquinone Q10 formulations with incredible results: the same Q10 raw material was used in all preparations, but the absorption rate varied hugely. The reason for this was evident when the formulas were examined under
the microscope – their structures.

Pharma Nord’s pharmaceutical-grade Bio-Quinone Active Q10 came out on top, with an absorption rate 3-10 times higher than that of the other six competitors.* This is due to their highly-specialised patented heating process, which occurs after the Q10 is dissolved in a vegetable oil solution, and changes the Q10’s crystal-like structure to one similar to snowflakes. As a result, the Q10 crystals can dissolve entirely at normal body temperature into single molecules – forming a homogenous mixture that the body can easily absorb. These results are proof of more than 30 years of meticulous product development – with a specific focus on bioavailability and quality, that works.
